Lt Col (Retd) Tom Hamilton – The Five Peaks Challenge

Many of you will recall that Lt Col (Retd) Tom Hamilton completed ‘The Long Walk’ from Catterick to Bovington in 2016 to raise funds for the New Museum Project.

Thanks to the generosity of our members, Tom raised a magnificent £6,040.

Last year Tom published a book ‘Caught in a Cam Net’, a collection of anecdotes from former serving Hussars, bringing together the experiences of service in a variety of theatres during their time in the Queen’s Own Hussars, the Queen’s Royal Irish Hussars and the Queen’s Royal Hussars.

The book is on sale via Amazon and all royalties are also going to the New Museum Project.

Tom’s next fund raising venture in support of the New Museum Project is to climb the five peaks of the UK; Pen Y Fan (7 June), Slieve Donard (14 June), Snowdon (15 August) Ben Nevis (14 September) and Scafell Pike (28 September).

Tom not only wants to raise much needed funds for the New Museum, a project he passionately believes is vital to preserving and extolling the long and proud history of our six antecedent regiments and the current serving Regiment, he also wants to use this latest venture to raise awareness of the Regimental Association.

Every Hussar is a member of the Regimental Association for life from the first day they serve at Regimental Duty. However, when they leave the Army many Hussars do not formally register with HHQ and as a result lose contact with the serving Regiment and the Association.

Tom’s hope is that his latest venture and ‘flag waving’ will help raise the profile of the Association and the good that it does to help our former serving Hussars who fall on hard times and need support.

Anyone wishing to join Tom on any of the climbs is more than welcome to do so. However, anyone attempting any of the climbs will do so at their own risk and should be prepared for the conditions and terrain.

Dates may change at short notice due to weather conditions and accommodation is an individual responsibility. Those seriously interested should contact Tom direct via techamilton@hotmail.com for further details.
