Veterans Railcard Coming Soon

There will be the launch of a new Railcard for Veterans coming soon.

Like other Railcards the holder will benefit from 1/3 off most rail fares but an additional companion will also benefit and up to 4 children can travel with you at a 60% discount.

The Railcard is due to launch in October for travel from early November at a special introductory price of just £21, saving £9 on the original retail price until 31 March 2021. It will then retail at £30 a year from 1 April 2021 onwards. A three year card will also be available for £61 instead of the usual price of £70.

VETERANS’ ID CARD ROLL OUT – UPDATE as at 27 APRIL 2020

The Veterans’ recognition scheme has a 2-phase rollout. Phase 1 is complete; with Service leavers receiving a recognition card as part of the discharge process.

Phase 2 is to extend the scheme to existing veterans so that they can more quickly, easily and securely prove they served in the UK Armed Forces so they can access the services they need.

We had hoped to have this in place by the end of 2019, but due to the requirement to future-proof the scheme so that veterans can access a wider range of benefits, the need to safeguard against fraudulent use means, this process will take longer.

Information on how to apply will be released closer to the launch date.

Cavalry Memorial Service Podcast

Due to the cancellation of the parade, HQ RAC have put together a Podcast version of the Cavalry Memorial Service together with an e-Order of Service for Sunday 3rd May 2020.

From the President of the Combined Cavalry Old Comrades Association:

“As you will all be aware, given current restrictions on movement and gatherings, it has not been possible to hold the Combined Cavalry Old Comrades Association’s normal Parade and Service on the Anniversary of the Unveiling and Dedication of the Cavalry Memorial. This electronic version of the Service is presented in the hope that you may wish ‘virtually’ to join together in memory of our comrades in the Cavalry who have given their lives in the service of their Country. The recording will be live from 1055 with incidental music. The actual Service will begin at 11 AM”.

Home Headquarters

Home Headquarters (HHQ) is situated in Regents Park Barracks, Albany Street, London NW1 4AL. It has 3 members of staff; The Regimental Secretary, The Assistant Regimental Secretary and a Chief Clerk.

The primary role of HHQ is to provide the interface between the serving Regiment, past members of the Regiment, the Regimental Association and the public. The primary objectives of HHQ are:

  • To promote the interests of the Regiment and all members, past, present and future.
  • Preserve our unique military history, heritage, traditions and Regimental ethos.
  • Provide support to our injured soldiers and their families.
  • Provide support to serving and former members of the Regiment and their families.
  • Via the Regimental Association, encourage strong links with former serving members to ensure they remain an integral part of our Regimental family.
  • Manage the Regimental Charity on behalf of the Trustees.
